South Gujarat University's MBA not among AICTE's approved courses
SURAT: Lokesh Patel, a commerce graduate, wishes to do MBA from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU). However, G H Bhakta Management Academy (GHBMA) of the university is not among the approved institutes' list on All India Council for Technical Education's (AICTE) website. This made him tense. The list has a number of colleges from across the state, including Surat. However, GHBMA's name is not to be found.
AICTE had introduced a common management admission test (CMAT) for admission to recognised MBA courses across the country. After introduction of a new format for admission, AICTE published a list of authorized colleges and departments on its website for admission to MBA course as per CMAT merit list.
"I am confused on seeking admission in MBA at GHBMA. When I inquired from the university, its officials assured me that the institute is recognized for CMAT," Patel said.
VNSGU sources said GHBMA and university officials had failed to provide complete details about the course and university etc. to AICTE and hence the department's name is missing from the approved institutes' list.
This has created confusion among the minds of students and companies as well, they added.
"We have written to AICTE requesting it to include the name of our department also in the list. We are trying to find out the reason why the name is missing from the approved institutes' list. The university had completed the procedure as per the rules," said R C Khadiya, deputy registrar, VNSGU.
"I will inquire into the matter and necessary steps would be taken to end this confusion. The department is recognized and functions as per AICTE rules," said Dakshesh Thakar, vice- chancellor, VNSGU.
