The Gujarat University is the statewide institution affiliating many reputed colleges across the state of Gujarat, India. It has been given a B++ ranking by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
History

The Gujarat University was conceived in the nineteen twenties in the minds of public-spirited and learned men like Gandhiji, Sardar Patel, Acharya Anandshankar B. Dhruva, Dada Saheb Mavlankar, and Kasturbhai Lalbhai. The University was set up after independence for India. In 1949, the University was incorporated under the Gujarat University Act of the State Government ‘as a teaching and affiliating University.’ This was done as a measure of decentralisation and reorganization of University education in the then Province of Bombay. During the course of its life, the University has seen the establishment of more Universities which were carved out of the jurisdiction of the Gujarat University, viz.,  Sardar Patel University, Saurashtra University, Bhavnagar University, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Gujarat Ayurveda University, Krantiguru Shyamji Krishna Verma Kachchh University, Navsari Agricultural University, Junagadh Agricultural University, Anand Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Dharmsinh Desai University, Nirma University of Science & Technology, Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University and Gujarat Technological University, Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Ganpat University, Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Ahmedabad University ICFAI University and Navrachana University. . Even then, the Gujarat University is the largest university in the state catering to the educational needs of more than 200,000 students scattered over more than 235 colleges, 15 recognised institutions and 24 approved institutions. There are more than 34 Post-Graduate University departments and 221 P.G. Centres. Gujarat University is an affiliating University at the under-graduate level, while it is a teaching one at the post-graduate level. Indeed, the responsibility for post-graduate instruction has been statutorily given to the University, and accordingly it has evolved a plan of coordinated instruction under the direct control and supervision of the University so as to ensure efficient and diversified instruction. An important feature of this University is the system of external examinations in the Faculties of Arts and Commerce, both and under-graduate and post-graduate levels. The external examinations were introduced with a view to enabling working students and the others who could not afford the high cost of university education to realize their dream. Gujarat University has developed phenomenally since its inception to be recognized as a premier University in the country today. It provides education in one of the widest range of disciplines to more than about 200,000 students.

Staff members do not want to enter Gujarat University Senate election on Saturday syndicate meeting that it was decided that Gujarat University employees who were attacked during control of Senate election forms submit to the registrar a complaint against student leaders can.

However, no officials of Gujarat University were willing to come in and do. Also, with the election due on 22 February, Gujarat University is fighting through without any officials. Gujarat University is left with no takers for the job. The syndicate meeting on Saturday had decided to food to take the responsibility of the Department of estate and give it to another Department.

Varsity officials said that while checking forms, there was a major disruption and officials had to run for cover. The officials said that there were not many volunteers among them as they are afraid of violence not only on 22 February, day of the vote, and also when counting the day. Officials said that they were unwilling to take up the job and hence the Vice-Chancellor was forced to direct an assistant registrar the election to take responsibility.

LLB students crowd Gujarat University about early exams

Ahmedabad: LLB students from semesters II, IV and VI created a commotion after Gujarat University stated exam dates. GU on Monday declared March 16 as the date for the examination.

This led to discontent among students as this research only 60 days after the first, third and fifth semesters are would. According to the officials, should be held by Gujarat University examine rules, 90 days after the previous investigation.

Gujarat University had, in a circular at the beginning of the semester, made it clear that the new seminar would start investigations on 1 January and 90 days after the beginning of the semester will take place, but GU has announced a date within the period of 90 days.
This made students angry, and they rushed to Gujarat University, demands that the investigation take place after the 90-day period.

IAS training Center

Gujarat University has restarted the A.D.Shodhan IAS Training Centre in the year 2005 (February) after its closure in the 1990’s. The Centre restarted initially three months Self Finance(Rs.3000) crash programme with 27 students preparing for the Civil services examinations of UPSC, New Delhi (Feb-April 2005). During the academic year the centre conducted six months preparation programmes for civil services examinations (September 2005 – February 2006) with Rs.6000 (Self Finance Programme) 38 students took admission in this programme. This month the programme comes to a close. But till May the centre remains open for students for reading, discussion purpose. The centre plans to introduce preparatory programmes for GPSC, NET/SLET etc examinations in future with self finance.
