AHMEDABAD: Two security guards as well as policemen in plainclothes have been deployed at the garden-cum-cafeteria near the science department of Gujarat University (GU). The action follows repeated complaints by girls that they were being harassed by boys, most of them from outside the campus.
It took almost one month for the GU to take this decision. "When we made the first complaint about a month back, no action was taken. The youths got emboldened and even started taking our clips hanging out in the garden during coffee breaks," said one of the girls. When the authorities didn't take their complaints seriously, the girls again approached them with names and mobile numbers of the boys harassing them on the campus.
"We have deployed additional security staff and curtailed the timing of the cafeteria from 5.30 in the evening to 4.30 pm," said acting vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Shah.
