AHMEDABAD: After the newly-appointed registrar and Controller of Examination of Gujarat University (GU) refused to take charge citing personal reasons, the acting registrar Rajesh J Patel too refused to continue as the acting registrar citing personal reasons.
Last week, Gujarat University had decided to appoint two candidates - one as the university's full-time Registrar and other as the Controller of Examination. The two accepted the offer after which the Gujarat University decided to convene a syndicate meeting and regularize their appointments. But a day after they accepted the offer, the two called up acting vice-chancellor Mukul Shah and informed him that the they would not be able to join due to personal and academic reasons. GU has been searching for a full time registrar and controller of examination. The post of registrar was vacant for over a decade. Officials said GU has also decided to give relaxation as per the Gujarat University Act for these two posts. The act states that there cannot be an age barrier for a candidate working under GU while the University Grants Commission rules make it clear that the candidate has to be in the age group of 35-50 years.
The acting VC said: "GU will give another officer the additional charge of registrar."
